NUMERICAL INVESTIGATION OF PARAMETERS AFFECTING HYDRIDE FORMATION

Hydrogen is a unique synthetic fuel with unusual properties and characteristics which are not shared by other fuels. It can be converted to other forms of energy, such as thermal, mechanical and electrical, with higher efficiencies than other fuels. It is the lightest and cleanest fuel, and environmentally most compatible. Hydrogen energy has recently gained great importance not only because of its being clean and non-pollutant fuel but also due to limited fossiled of fuel energy resources. The main problem lies in the storage limiting the hydrogen usage. In this study, hydrogen storage in metal-hydride beds has been investigated numerically developing a three-dimensional-mathematical model. The mathematical model includes the heat and mass transfer and chemical reaction that take place during the absorption. The hydride bed heats up due to the exothermic reaction that take place during the storage. Although hydrogen flow in bed affects the temperature distribution, it does not affect the storage velocity
