Güneybatı Lykaonia’dan bir eques cohortis II Hispanorum

Makalenin konusunu Roma ordusunda bir süvari birliğinde (cohors II Hispanorum equitata) görev yapan Hispania kökenli bir emekli askerin mezar yazıtı oluşturmaktadır. Latince kaleme alınmış yazıt Güneybatı Lykaonia’da, Beyşehir Gölü’nün güneyinde Üstünler’de ele geçmiş ve daha önce eksik yayınlanmıştır. Taştaki tahribattan dolayı adı okunamayan mezar sahibi orduda 42 yıl hizmet etmiş, emekliliği gelince de Beyşehir civarına yerleşmiştir. Mensubu olduğu cohors II Hispanorum süvari birliğinin Kappadokya’da konuşlandığı bilinmektedir. Yazıtta ilgi çeken terim aera’dır. Bu sözcük ile Erken İmparatorluk Dönemi’nde orduda geçirilen hizmet yılı ifade edilmiştir. Üstünler yazıtında belirtilen 42 hizmet yılı ordu mensupları için çok ender belgelenmiş uzun bir süredir. Bu sözcük yerine sonraki dönemlerde stipendia kullanılmıştır. Makalenin ekinde Üstünler’de daha önce ele geçen yazıtlar da derlenmiştir.

An eques cohortis II Hispanorum from Southwest Lycaonia

This article presents an improved reading of an inscription published by Asuman Baldıran in 2009. The funerary monument commemorates an eques cohortis II Hispanorum equitatae who appears to have clocked up 42 years in military service. The eques whose name is not preserved, appears to have clocked up an unusually long period of service of 42 years in military service and apparently settled in southwest Lycaonia at the place where his epitaph was found. The mounted cohors II Hispanorum was stationed in Galatia et Cappadocia. Of particular interest is the rare word aera, which in the early imperial period was used to indicate the number of years of military service and was later superseded by stipendia. All known inscriptions from Üstünler are also compiled in an epigraphic appendix.
