Aydınlanma insanın aklî rüşdünü ispat ederek bütün hayatını buna göre tanzim etmesini ifade eder. Türkiye'de Aydınlanma ülkenin içine düşmekte olduğu tehlikeli hale karşı çarelerin arandığı bir sırada etkisini göstermiştir. Aydınlanma hareketinin Türkiye ile ilişkilerini incelemek, mukayeseli edebiyat araştırmalarının konusunu teşkil eder. Aydınlanma fikrî ve pedagojik açıdan Tanzimat'tan sonra Türk edebiyat ve düşüncesini daha çok etkilemiştir. Aydınlanma düşünürleri "Cumhuriyet" i "fazilet rejimi" olarak tanımlarlar. Türkiye'de cumhuriyetin kurulması Aydınlanmanın siyasî bir zaferidir. Bugünkü Türk nesilleri üzerindeki Namık Kemal'den Mustafa Kemal'e uzanan Aydınlanma etkilerini bilmek, her Türk için bir yurttaşlık görevidir.

Enlightment means that a man arranges his wole life as he proves his rational emancipation. In Turkey, Enligtment showed its effects while solutions which were searched against the dangerous situation that Turkey has fallen into. Investigating the relationships between Turkey and the Enligtment movement forms the subject of the comparative literature. After Tanzimat, Enlightment, intellectually and pedagogicly, affected the tought and literature of Turks a lot more than it did before. Philosophers of Enlightment define "Rebublics" as the regimes of virtue. The establishment of the rebuplic in Turkey was a political victory of the Enligtment. Knowing the effects of the Enligtment, which starts with Namık Kemal and continues towards Mustafa Kemal, must be one of the tasks of citizenship for every Turk.
