Incidental lesions of lumbar spinal MR Imaging in lumbar discopathy patients
Purpose: This study was carried out to investigate the prevalence and type of randomized findings in patients who were treated with Lomber spinal Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). Materials and methods: We evaluated 613 patients who underwent Lomber MRI in consideration of Lumbar discopathy. Lumbar MRI were reported by musculoskeletal radiologists. Vertebral hemangiomas, tarlov cysts, kidney cysts, schmorl nodules, liver cysts were included in the study. Results: A total of 613 patients (male to female ratio, 354: 259; age range, 16-79 years). Vertebral hemangiomas were found in 5.7% (n = 35), tarlov cysts in 3.5% (n = 22), renal cyst in 2.2% (n = 14), schmorl nodule in 1.4% 0.3 (n = 2) liver cysts were detected. Conclusion: Incidental findings are very common in MRI examinations of patients with lomber discopathies. Although most of the incidental findings of the Lomber Spinal Cord MRI are benign findings, the awareness of prevalence helps to diagnose lesions not related to the symptoms.
