Bu çalışma Osmanlının son dönemlerine tekabül eden 1869-1914 yılları arasında Iraktaki kültürel gelişmeler ele alınmıştır.  Vali Mithat Paşa döneminde ilk sayısı Haziran 1869 yılında çıkan el-Zawra gazetesinin Irak toplumun temel dinamikleri üzerindeki etkileri ele alınmıştır. Mithat paşa buharla çalışan ve saatta 3500 baskı yapan  bu modern matbaayı Paris’ten satın almıştır. Vilayet matbaası olarak bilinen bu matbaa o dönemde Irak toplumunun fikri ve sosyal gelişiminde önemli rol oynamıştır.Anahtar Sözcükler: Kültürel gelişmeler, Irak, Osmanlı İmparatorluğu.

The study of cultural developments in Iraq for the period of 1869-1914 in the last Ottoman era considers, the basic pillar in the structure of Iraqi society because of emergence of the press in Iraq, represented by AL-Zawra newspaper which its first issue was in June 1869 in the time of Midhat Pasha, who brought modern printing from Paris, which was the first mechanical printing operated by steam and it produces (3500) pages per hour. It was called (The Country printing)because it played a significant role in creating the intellectual and social awareness in Iraq in that period.Key Words: Cultural development, Iraq, Ottoman Empire.
