The Effect of Manufacturing Sector Firm Profitability on Economic Growth: Evidence From Turkey

The aim of this study is to investigate the economic growth effect of the profitability of firms operating in the manufacturing sector. For this purpose, in accordance with 1995-2016 data of 101 manufacturing firms in the Turkish manufacturing sector, the relationship is analyzed using the panel autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) method. The analysis results showed that the independent variable coefficient obtained by pooled mean group (pmg), mean group (mg) and dynamic fixed effects (dfe), which are the main predictors of panel ARDL in bth short and long run, is positive. In addition, the Hausman test results indicated that the estimator, which should be preffered, is pmg and dfe. The result is that the increase in the profitability of firms operating in the manufacturing sector has increased the economic growth. This conclusion confirms that the manufacturing sector is the basic dynamics of growth, providing that the profitability contributes to economic growth in view of its contribution to the development of the manufacturing sector.
