THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN ETHICAL CLIMATEPERCEPTIONS AND WHISTLEBLOWING: AN EMPIRICALSTUDY

Written, visual and audio media often share events relevant to whistleblowing with the public. Considering the range, frequency and influence of these events, it is seen that society, economy, public institutions, civil society organizations, other social actors and ultimately enterprises are more or less affected by these events as they are the parts of the economic and social environment. One of the determining factors on employees' whistleblowing intention is their ethical climate perception. This research aims to examine the relationship between ethical climate and whistleblowing. For this purpose, the concepts of ethical climate and whistleblowing are theoretically studied and the research findings on the relationship between ethical climate types and whistleblowing intention are presented. A questionnaire was applied on a sample of employees working in the manufacturing enterprises in Kayseri to get the data for analyzing the variables. Statistically usable 403 questionnaires were obtained. The study reveals that principle-based ethical climate and benevolent-based ethical climate positively affect whistleblowing intention. However, egoism-based ethical climate has insignificant effect on whistleblowing intention
