Batı Toroslar'da Yerel Ayaklanmalar ve Eşkiyalık

Batı Toros'larda eşkıyalık faaliyetlerine tüm İlkçağ boyunca rastlanmaktadır. Bölgenin fiziki yapısı böyle bir oluşumu teşvik etmekteydi. Kentlerin ve devletlerin etkili bir şekilde kontrol edemediği zor geçit veren dağlar, kanun dışı yaşama sürüklenenlere yeterince sığmak imkânı tanımaktaydı. Bölgede büyük bir devlet gücü bulunduğunda, eşkıyalığın azaldığına; devlet gücünün azaldığında veya anarşik dönemler yaşandığında ise, eşkıyaların örgütlenerek tehlikeli bir güç oluşturduklarına tanık olunmaktadır. Kaynaklarda eşkıyalık faaliyetleri olarak gösterilen yerel ayaklanmalar; yozlaşmış devlet organlarının dağ halklarına düzenledikleri baskıya tepki olarak algılanmalıdır. Bu genelleme için Helenistik ve Roma dönemlerinden birkaç örnek sunulmaktadır.

Lokale Aufstaende und Raeuberunwesen im Westlichen Taurus

Aktivitaten von Râuberbanden sind in den westlichen Taurusregionen Lykien, Pisidien, Pamphylien, Isaurien und der Kietis wahrend der gesamten Antike bezeugt. Der gebirgige Landescharakter kam einer solchen Beschâftigung gewiB entgegen. Zu einer ernsthaften Bedrohung wurde das Rauberunwesen aber meist erst in Zeiten, in denen die staatliche Macht abnahm oder ganz fehlte. Damit ging auch eine Verschlechterung der ökonomischen Situation der Bergbewohner einher. Repressalien durch staatliche Autoritaten riefen lokale Aufstânde hervor. Diese waren nicht separatistisch motiviert, sondern vielmehr eine Reaktion auf die korrupte Verwaltung. Diese Verallgemeinerung wird fur die hellenistische und römische Zeit mit einigen Fallbeispielen beleuchtet.
