Evaluatıon of Melendiz Rıver Water Qualıty Accordıng To Dıfferent Use Purpose

In this study, the water quality of the Melendiz River in Aksaray Province was evaluated by means of water quality index models for different usage purposes. According to our regulations, alkalinity, hardness, color, chloride, nitrate, phosphate and conductivity parameters were found to be of good quality. In contrast, BOD5, pH, TDM, dissolved oxygen, turbidity values were found to exceed the limit values at sometimes. In addition, microbial contamination has been detected in all seasons in the water source. The evaluation of the water source in terms of all these parameters, it was concluded that the water source can be used for treatment/drinking water supply after treatment by conventional processes. When the physicochemical and microbial data were evaluated according to the National Sanitation Foundation and Dinius Water Quality Indexes, it was concluded that the water source was “medium” and “bad” level and so it could be used only irrigation and industrial purposes and also used as drinking water after treatment.
