State Feedback H∞ Semi Active Control of Fighter Jet Seat

This paper deals with the design of a Linear Matrix Inequalities (LMI) based state feedback H∞ controller for a semi active vibration mitigation problem of fighter jet seats. Ten degrees of freedom detailed full aircraft mathematical model having semi active seats are controlled and analyzed seat vibrations caused by runway excitations during taxiing. For this purpose a Magneto-Rheological (MR) damper is used instead of a passive damper as semi active seats. The MR damper has non-linear characteristics and its damping force varies by voltage which is applied to electromagnetic coil. The performance of seats with the MR damper is controled via LMI based state feedback H∞ controller. The control method is compared with the passive case (MR 0 V).
