XIX. yüzyılda yaşamış olan Erzurumlu Kami'nin hayatı hakkında ayrıntılı bilgi yoktur. Doğduğu köyde bulunan bir çeşmeye yazdığı kitabeden hareketle onun 1 824 yılında hayatta olduğu tahmin edilmektedir. Ancak, tek başına bu bilgi, onun hayatını aydınlatmak için yeterli olmamaktadır. Şairin elimizde sadece beş şiiri mevcuttur. Asıl şöhretini Erzurum ve çevresinde tatyan tarzında bestelenerek okunan "bir su ver" redifli şiiriyle sağlamıştır. Bu şiir, TRT repertuarına girmiş, uzun yıllar geniş kesimlerce zevkle okunmuş ve dinlenmiştir. Söz konusu şiirin sadece üç beyti repertuara girmişti. Son araştırmalarımızda şiirin altı beyti tespit edilmiştir. Şiirlerinde aşık tarzının biçim ve içerik özelliklerinin yanı sıra divan şiiri ve tasavvufi halk edebiyatı geleneğinin etkileri de görülmektedir.

Na detailed information exists about Kdmi of Erzurum, a poet of the 19th century. He is assumed ta have been alive in 1824 on the hasis of his inscription on a fountain in his home village. Nevertheless, this piece of in.formation a!one is not sufficient ta shed light upon his life. Only five poems of the poet have sıırvived to this day. He largely owes his fame ta his poem with the radif "bir su ver", which was composed and has been sung in the form of tatyan in Er=ıırum and its vicinity. This piece of poetry was introdııced into the repertoire of TRT [The Tıırkish Radio and Television Corporation} and was sung and enjoyed for many years by a vast majority. On!y three coııplets of the poem were introduced into the repertoire. Our recent research has revealed six couplets of the poem. Kami 's poetry reflects not only the peculiar characteristics of the ashik tradition in its form and content, but alsa the impacts of the tradition of diwan poetry and Sufi folk poetry.
