Toplumların dini ve siyasi tarihinde önemli yer tutan reform ve ıslahat hareketleri, özellikle modern dönemde gerek Batı’da gerekse Doğu’da büyük tartışmalara ve kırılmalara yol açmış konulardandır. Konunun siyasi boyutundan ziyade dini boyutuyla ilgilenen bu makale, reform ve ıslahat kavramlarını Yahudilik örneğine atıfla ele alıyor. Bu bağlamda Yahudi tarihi boyunca ortaya çıkan önemli ıslahat ve reform hareketleri, bu hareketler arasındaki benzerlik ve farklılıklar ile bilhassa modern dönemde ortaya çıkan Yahudi reform hareketiyle birlikte reform anlayışının Yahudi geleneği içerisinde kazandığı mânâ ve biçim üzerinden değerlendirmelere yer veriyor.

Reform and restoration are two important concepts in religious and political history of humanity, which became, especially in the modern period, the cause for severe debates and ruptures in the West as well as in the East. This article, looking at the topic in its religious aspects, deals with these two concepts in relation to Jewish tradition in particular. So, some important attempts at restoration and reform occurring throughout Jewish history, similarities and differences among them, and most importantly the nature of modern Jewish Reform movement, through which the understanding of reform has got a new meaning and shape—in terms of ‘keeping with essence’ rather than ‘going back to an original form’—are among the topics discussed here.
