Dinler Tarihi Araştırmalarında “Konulu Karşılaştırma” Yönteminin Kullanılması: Geoffrey Parrinder’in Çalışmalarından Bazı Örnekler

Konulu karşılaştırma yöntemi, XX. yüzyılın ortalarından itibaren Dinler Tarihi araştırmalarında kullanılagelen bir metottur. Karşılaştırmalı yöntemin bir alt dalı olarak kabul edilebilecek bu yöntemde, seçilen herhangi bir dini fenomen veya konu, bütün dinlerin bakış açısına göre ele alınmaya çalışılır. Böylece konuların daha detaylı bir biçimde anlaşılması hedeflenmektedir. Ayrıca okuyucunun, belli bir konu üzerinde farklı dinlerin görüşlerini bir arada bulma imkânına sahip olması beklenir. İngiliz Dinler Tarihçisi Geoffrey Parrinder de konulu karşılaştırma yöntemini başarılı bir şekilde kullanmış ve değişik eserler ortaya koymuştur. Bu makalede onun ibadet, mistisizm ve cinsel ahlak gibi konuları araştırırken, konulu karşılaştırma yönteminden nasıl istifade ettiğini tespit etmeye çalışacağız.

The Application of the Thematic Comparison Method in the Studies of the History of Religions: Some Examples from the Works of Geoffrey Parrinder

The Thematic Comparison Method has been used in the studies of the History of Religions since the midst of the 20th century. In this method, which can be accepted as a sub-branch of the Comparative Method, any phenomenon, or subject selected is dealt with in accordance with the perspectives of certain religions. Thus, detailed understandings of the selected subjects are aimed. Besides this, the reader is expected to have the opportunity to find various religious viewpoints on a specific subject. Briefly, Geoffrey Parrinder, the British Historian of Religions, has used the Thematic Comparison successfully, and has produced different works in this vein. In this article, we will try to set forth how Parrinder utilizes the Thematic Comparison Method in his works, such topics as worship, mysticism and sexual morality.
