National-State idea and National-States

The article is written with an aim to contribute to the debate between Hannes Lacher and Ellen Meiksins Wood in early 2000s about the origin of nations- states. In this debate, while Lacher rejected any necessary connection between nation-state and capitalism, Meiksins asked why the spread of capitalism has always been accompanied by the proliferation of nation-states. This article argues that state theory needs to be spatially reworked. It also proposes the term "selective permeability" in order to highlight the link between nation-states and capitalism. Nation-states have institutionalized an order that provides more mobility to capital compared to labour under all circumstances. The article calls for more contributions to the analysis of spatial organization of capitalism.
