Lipid Peroxidation and Antioxidant Activity in Normal and Preeclampsic Pregnancies

Lipid Peroxidation and Antioxidant Activity in Normal and Preeclampsic Pregnancies

The formation of free radicals is a normal physiological course and free radicals which act on lipids cause to lipid peroxidation. Nevertheless, all human body cells have developed a set of antioxidant defence system. During pregnancy, the balance between lipid peroxidation and antioxidant defence system is also important as all terms of the human life for resuming the basic physiological functions of both mother and her fetus. Increasing on placental lipoperoxidative activity during pregnancy could effect the placenta and fetus unfavorably. In preeclamptic pregnancies, vasculer endothelial cell disfunction could rise the lipid peroxidation more dramatically. Therefore, intervening the antioxidant defence system is highly vital for the prognosis of the condition. According to the recent studies, antioxidant vitamin supplement can be required whether the antioxidant system doesn't step in against to the lipid peroxidation and this treatment could protect the life of mother and her fetus.
