THE INTERSECTION OF STYLE AND RESPONSIBILITY: FASHION, SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT AND FINANCE

With the increase of human population, consumption has increased and the damage to natural resources has become dangerous. Fashion is one of the largest industries in the world. It is natural for people to express themselves through their clothes. However, with the fast fashion trend, significant harm is given to both the environment and human rights in production and consumption. It is considered that these damages may cause a slowdown in reaching the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are targeted to be achieved by 2030. Efforts to reduce the environmental and social damages of the fashion and garment industry require serious financing. Sustainable finance mechanisms that come into play at this point will help the sector move forward in achieving its goals in a more convenient and easy way. This study aims to explain the obstacles created by the fashion and garment sector in reaching the SDGs and the contribution of sustainable finance practices in eliminating them.
