This study has been conducted to evaluate the curriculum used by the Turkish Ministry of National Education for the Elective Computer Course in terms of its effects on students’ attitudes towards computers. The working group of the study, in which pre test-post test experimental model was used, consisted of 76 students from 6th grade at Ülkü Bora Primary Education School. In the first phase of the study, upon providing the students with training under the curriculum of the Ministry of National Education for the Elective Computer course, the Computer Attitude Scale, which was translated into Turkish by Berberoğlu and Çalıkoğlu and whose reliability and validity was tested, was applied. Then, the students that received 5-week training on the Internet in line with the European Computer Driving License (ECDL) program, a program recognized in the EU countries, were asked to answer the computer attitude scale again. And in the last phase, a practical examination was given in order to assess the students’ success in learning the Internet. Findings obtained through comparison of the results of the attitude scale imply that the Internet training provided within the scope of the ECDL program is capable o affecting the students’ attitude towards computers more positively. It has also been seen that the students’ anxiety towards computers decreased, and their liking for using computers and attitude towards using computers in daily life increased. And the results of the practical examinations imply that there are positively significant relations between students’ success in learning the Internet and their attitude towards computers. In that context, it would be worthwhile to reorganize the Elective Computer course curriculum of the Turkish Ministry of National Education in such a way to conform to the standards of the European Union.Key words: Internet education, curriculum, attitudes towards computer
