Income Distribution and Development Relationship: The Case of BRICS-T Countries

Development is among the basic indicators of the development levels of the countries since it includes socio-cultural factors as well as economic factors. Even if the development levels of the countries increase, the problem of how the created wealth will be distributed among individuals is always important. From this point of view, the aim of the study is to examine the relationship between development and income distribution in BRICS-T countries between 1990-2018. In this context, Westerlund ECM, Westerlund D-H cointegration and Kónya panel causality analyzes, which take into account cross-sectional dependency, homogeneity and heterogeneity, were used. As a result of the analysis, it was concluded that there is a long-term relationship between income distribution and development in BRICS-T countries. At the same time, a causal relationship has been found between income distribution and development.
