Tanzimat’tan Cumhuriyet’e Osmanlı’da Gerçekleşen Askeri Müdahaleler ve İngiliz -Amerikan Basınında Yansımaları

Bu makalede Osmanlı’da gerçekleşen askeri müdahalelere İngiliz, Amerikan basınının yaklaşımı ele alınmaktadır. Makalede ele alınan askeri müdahaleler 30 Mayıs 1876’da Osmanlı Padişahı Sultan Abdülaziz’in tahttan indirilmesiyle başlayıp, 27 Nisan 1909 Darbesi, 17 Temmuz 1912’de Said Paşa kabinesini deviren Halaskâr Zabıtan Muhtırası devam etmekte ve 23 Ocak 1913 Babıali Baskını ile sona ermektedir. Bu kapsamda öncelikli olarak askeri müdahalelerin gerçekleşme süreci ana hatları ile ortaya konmuş, sonrasında ise bu müdahalenin İngiliz ve Amerikan basınının öne çıkan gazetelerinde nasıl yer aldığına değinilmiştir. Gazetelerin askeri müdahalelerin hemen öncesinde ve sonrasında çıkan sayıları incelenerek bu yaklaşım ortaya konmaya çalışılmıştır. Yapılan taramalar ve değerlendirmeler ışığında söz konusu dört müdahalenin biri hariç hepsinde İngiliz Amerikan basınının darbecilerin yanında yer aldığı, mevcut yönetimi köhne, işlemez, despot gibi sıfatlarla eleştirdiği göze çarpmaktadır.

Military Interventions in the Ottoman Era from Tanzimat to the Republic and Its Reflections in the British-American Newspapers

In this article the perception of military interventions by the British and American press in the Ottoman era is analyzed. The military interventions discussed in the article start with the deposition of the Sultan Abdülaziz on May 30, 1876, and continue along with the coup on April 27, 1909 and the Halaskâr Zabıtan ultimatum, which overthrew the Said Pasha cabinet on July 17, 1912. Lastly, the Babıali raid on January 23, 1913 is examined. In this context, first of all, the process of military interventions is outlined, and then reflections over the British and American press are mentioned. With this aim, several newspapers published just before and after the military interventions were examined. In the light of the research it is striking that in three out of four interventions the British American press sided with the coup plotters and criticized the current administrations as outdated, unworkable and despotic.
