In this study, after giving a short information on the life of 'Ali b. 'Abdullah el-'Uşşâkî known as Nebi Efendi-zâde (öl. 1200/1785-1786) and his works, we present an edition of a text (Kaşide Ji el-kutub el-meşhüre fi el-'ulum) by him written in Ottoman-Turkish, concerning the text books used in Ottoman madrasahs. Then we also give concise information on books and authors included in this Kaside. Finally, by taking into consideration other historical sources that give information on textbooks used in Ottoman madrasahs, we evaluate this Kaside. The result we arrive is that this Kaşîde by Nebî Efendî-zâde shows that XVIII. Century Ottoman Madrasah system was still preserving its classical level, and was still successful in communicating the tradition to future generations, while renovating itself by accepting the necessary innovations into its paradigm.
