David Hume ' da tümevarım' ın imkanları

Bu makalede incelemek istediğimiz husus, özellikle deneysel tabiî bilimlerin geliştiği ve tüm düşünce dünyasında ağırlığını hissettirmeye başladığı on yedinci yüzyılda, bilimsel felsefenin en önemli yöntemi olarak kabul edilen ve Francis Bacon?la yeniden canlandırılan tümevarımın Hume açısından ne ifade ettiğinin ortaya konması olacaktır. Zira Hume, kendisine kadar gelen birçok kabulün aslında yanlış olduğunu ve yeniden ele alınması gerektiğini söyleyerek, gerek yaşadığı dönemde ve gerekse sonrasında pek çok konunun yeniden tartışılmasını sağlamıştır; bu konuların başında da yaşadığı yüzyılın hakim felsefî yöntem anlayışı olan tümevarıma dair geliştirdiği şüpheci yaklaşım gelmektedir.

The possibility of induction according to David hume

The primary object of this essay is to detail the concept of induction?as revived by Francis Bacon-in Hume's thought, which had been perceived as the most prominent method of scientific philosophy in the seventeenth century when experimental natural sciences advanced to such an extent as to dominate all the intellectual world. Hume represents a crucial turning-point in the development of the concept, for he challenged many assumptions in relation to the concept, proving them false and suggesting that those assumptions should be reconsidered; he thus paved the way for many issues to be re-opened to discussion. Foremost among those issues is his approach of doubt, which he developed against the induction as the dominant phisophical method of his times.
