Osmanlı İmparatorluğu’nda medreseler genellikle ilmiye teşkilatı ve İstanbul esas alınarak çeşitli açılardan incelenmiştir. Taşradaki medreselerin işleyişi konusunda ise az sayıda inceleme mevcuttur. Bu çalışmada, taşra medreseleri Kastamonu şehri esas alınarak, modernleşme arefesi olarak nitelendirilebilecek XIX. yüzyılın ortalarından itibaren ders programları, öğretim metotları, müderris ve talebelerin sosyo-ekonomik kökenleri ve durumları ve tarihsel süreç içinde meydana gelen değişimler taşra-merkez ilişkileri açısından ele alınmıştır.

In Ottoman Empire, medreses are generally analyzed from respect of ilmiye organisation and center of goverment Istanbul. There are scant of studies about the medreses in the provinces. In this study, Kastamonu by being taken as a center, for the mids of 19. century, just before the modernization era, curriculum, theaching metods, socio-economic roots and situation of mudarris and students and the changes that occured in historcal process are discussed from the point of center-periphery relations.
