Effects of dietary boric acid and yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) supplementation on performance, carcass traits and some blood parameters of broilers

This study was carried out to determine the eff ects of boric acid (BA) (17.5% boron) and Saccharomyces cerevisiae (yeast, M) supplementation on body weight gain, feed conversion ratio, carcass yield, bone ash content, serum total protein, cholesterol and triglyceride levels. The experiment lasted in 42 days. Totally 96 one-day old male broilers (Ross 308) were housed at a density of 6 chicken (0.9 m2 for each) in each per of experimental groups. Diets were based on maize and soybean meal. Experimental groups divided into one control and three experiment groups. Feed and water were given ad libitum. The experimental diets supplemented with 2.5 g/kg M for the first group, 60 mg/kg BA for the second group and 2.5 g/kg M plus 60 mg/kg BA combination for the third group (M+BA). At the end of experiment period there were some numerically diff erences about body weight, body weight gain, feed consumption values between control and all other treatment groups (P>0.05). On the other hand for first part of experiment period (0-21 days), there were statistically significant increasing of feed consumption for treatment groups compare with control group (P<0.01). There were no statistically diff erent feed conversion ratio, hot carcass yield, internal organs weight, tibia ash and boron values and serum cholesterol, triglyceride and total protein levels (P>0.05). The results of experiment showed that addition of boric acid and Saccharomyces cerevisiae into rations had no negative eff ect on performance, carcass traits and some blood parameters in broilers.
