Effects of carbontetrachloride (CCI4) on some blood ualues in pregnant and non-pregnant rats

In this investigation, the effect of CCl4 on some biochemical values in pregnant and non-pregnant rats was aimed to study. Twelve female 6-8 months old Wistar Albino rats weighing 150-250 g were used. Rats were divided randomly into two groups containing six in each. In one group pregnancy was achived by housing six female rats with a fertile male for one night. Blood was withdrawn from ether anesthetized rats through heart puncture, on the seventh day of pregnancy and non-pregnant rats for some biochemical measurements. Acute intoxication was induced in rats by injection a single dose of a mixture of CCl4 + olive oil (1:1), 2 ml/kg, intraperitonally. Aspartate aminotransferase (AST), Alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and Lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) enzyme activities were increased significantly in pregnant and non-pregnant rats after CCl4 treatment. These results indicate the hepatic damage caused by acute toxic effects of carbon tetrachloride both in pregnant and non-pregnant rats.
