Bu makalade, Türkiye’nin önde gelen sosyologlarından Doğan Ergun’un sosyoloji bilimine katkıları eleştirel olarak incelenmektedir. Diyalektik yaklaşım çerçevesinde sosyoloji yapan Ergun, özellikle “Türk Bireyi Kuramı ve “Türk Ulusal Kişiliği Kuramı” ile görüşlerini ortaya koymaktadır. Ergun, tarih içerisinde oluşmuş, şekillenmiş, ancak toplumsal değişmeye bağlı olarak da sürekli değişen Türk toplumunun ve insanının tarihsel ve kültürel özelliklerini teorileştirmektedir. Ergun, liberal-bireyci Batı toplumlarının karşısına kamucu-devletçi Doğu toplumlarını çıkarmakta; sosyolojide yöntem konusunu bilinçli bir şekilde ele alıp sorgulamaktadır. Sosyolojide tarihsel ve felsefi temeli önemseyen Ergun, araştırmalarında, Türk toplumunun ve bireyinin Batı toplumlarından ve bireyinden farklılıklarını ortaya koymaktadır. Yöntemin neliği, Türk toplumunun, Batılı toplumlardan farklılıkları, Türk kimliği, Türk kişiliği, Türk bireyinin nitelikleri, tarih-toplum, toplum-birey, toplum-eğitim ilişkileri ve toplumsal değişme başlıkları Doğan Ergun’un temel çalışma alanlarını teşkil etmektedir.  

In this article, the contributions of Doğan Ergun who is one of the leading sociologists in Turkey to the discipline of sociology are analyzed critically. Doğan Ergun who deals with sociology in terms of dialectic approach puts forward his views with “Turkish Individual Theory” and “Turkish National Personality Theory”. Ergun theorizes the historical and cultural characteristics of the Turkish society and individual which have been formed, shaped and changed due to social change throughout the history. Ergun compares the liberal-individualistic Western societies with the public-statist Eastern ones and deals with the method problem in sociology and criticizes it consciously. Ergun who doesn’t care much about the historical and philosophical basis of sociology in his researches proves the differences between Turkish society-individual and the Western societies and individuals. The main research areas of Doğan Ergun are the essence of the method, the differences of Turkish society from the Westerns, Turkish identity, Turkish personality, the characteristics of the Turkish individual, history-society, society-individual, society-educational issues and social change.
