Relation Between Rheumatological Diseases and MPV Levels with Pulmonary Embolism

Objective: Pulmonary Embolism (PE) is shown as an important health problem all over theworld. Many predisposed conditions are known, which are the cause of PE. There are an acquired and genetic risk factors for PE, but in 30% of patients the cause cannot be determined. Thereare so many and genetic risk factors for PE. However, in %30 of patients the cause aren’t determined. New risk factors are being investigated in recent years. In this study, the relationshipbetween PE and the value of mid platelet volume (MPV) and rheumatological diseases (RH) wasstudied. Method: The records in the hospital database were used in the study. Patients diagnosed withPE between January 2008 and July 2012 were determined retrospectively and 64 patients wereincluded in the study. Among patients diagnosed with PE, those diagnosed with RH and average MPV values of patients were determined. A control group was formed by selecting 64patients who were not diagnosed with PE and RH from the patients who applied at the sametime interval with the case group.Among the patients with PE and who are diagnosed with theRD and whose values of MPV were determined. PE patiends and Rheumatologic patients whoare diagnosed with PE and whose values of MPV were compared. Results: As a result of the analyzes, it was determined that there was no significant differencebetween the case and control groups. Conclusion: As a result, it is evaluated that there is a need for new research to be planned onthe subject.
