Çalışmalarını sosyoloji geleneğine bağlı kalarak sürdüren çağdaş Alman sosyolog Ulrich Beck, ortaya attığı risk toplumu kuramı ile günümüz toplumlarının sorunlarını kavramaya ve sorunlara çözüm önerileri getirmeye çalışmaktadır. Beck, günümüz risklerini özellikle dikkate alarak, modernliğin devam eden bir süreç olduğunu ve bilinçli bir şekilde yaşanması gerektiğini öngörmektedir. Risk toplumu ve kendi üstünde düşünen modernleşme kuramı ile bugünün yanı sıra geleceğe de yön verme çabasında olmuştur. Kuram, büyük ölçüde Batı toplumu ve Kıta Avrupa'sını kapsar niteliktedir.

Contemporary German sociolog Ulrich Beck who continues his studies in connection with the sociology tradition, with his theory of risk society, tries to conceive today's societies' problems and show ways of solution to these problems. Holding the opinion that modernity is a continuing process, Beck, intends to live modernity in a conscious way, regarding today's risks. He tries to guide not only today but also the future with his theory. His theory of risk society and reflexive modernization has a particularity of comprising the Western societies and the European Continent.
