SYNTHESIS, ISOLATION AND CHARACTERISATION OF SOME SUBSTITUTED N-BENZYL AND N-BENZOYL ANILINES

The benzylation and benzoylation of certain ring substituted anilines were performed to produce benzyl and benzoyl derivatives which were required as substrates and potential metabolites for drug metabolism studies. The methods employed yieided the desired secondary anilines together with corresponding arnides. The structures and purity of these products were confirmed using spectroscopic methods and their separations from both starting rnateiials and conesponding primary anilines were achieved by use of column and thin-layer chromatography. Although some of these, products are known compounds, this present work decribes a useful separation technique and detailed spectroscopic and chromatographic data for the related required compounds under study.
