Evaluation of the Mammalian Fauna of Sinop Province

This study aimed to determine the mammal fauna of the Sinop. For this purpose, in different habitatsin the province of Sinop, field and observational study was conducted in 2012-2014. This research resulted inthe terrestrial and aquatic biotope at Sinop Province, is likely to spread 42 mammal species were identified. Thismammal species belong to the following orders; Carnivora (11 species), Chiroptera (10 species), Rodentia (10species), Soricomorpha (4 species), Artiodactyla (3 species), Cetacea (2 species) Lagomorpha (1 species) andErinaceomorpha (1 species). Sinop mammalian fauna, evaluated by IUCN category are determined endangeredspecies. In this context, Miniopterus schreibersii- common bent-wing bat is NT (near threatened) category;Rhinolophus mehelyi- Mehely’s horseshoe bat is VU (vulnerable) category and one Carnivora species (Lutra lutracommonotter) is NT (near threatened) category in Sinop province. Other mammal species in the LC (low risk,widely distributed) category. Belonging to the family Cervidae, roe deer (Capreolus capreolus) is designated as thetarget species in Sinop Bozburun Wildlife Development Land. There are no endemic mammalian species in Sinop.
