A THEORETICAL STUDY ON THE CONCEPT AND ROLE OF BODY LANGUAGE IN THE PROCESS OF INTERPERSONAL COMMUNICATION

The phenomenon of communication that began with the dawn of human history has always been one of the basic acts that human beings need for the survival of their existence. Human being that is a social creature is always in contact with other in every relation he/she has. In other words, the lives of human beings have been constructed depending on interpersonal relations and communication. In this study, after defining the concept of communication, we will try to display the body language by means of defining the interpersonal communication which is one of the types of communication like internal communication, organizational communication and mass communication. We will emphasize what kind of an effect the body language creates in the interpersonal communication process. The body language which is used since the first existence of the human being occurs without verbal expressions and it is accepted as non-verbal communication. Even in the situations where we think that the communication level is predominantly verbal, it has been observed that there is an increase in the non-verbal signs directed from abstract concepts to concrete ones. The body language that we have focused on in accordance with the subject of our study and which constitutes an important part of interpersonal communication is one of the basic building structures of interpersonal communication.
