Bu çalışma, Ankara İli Mamak Merkez İlçesine bağlı Kıbrıs ve Bayındır köylerinde 0-36 aylık çocukların anne sütü alma süresi ve ek besinlere başlama durumlarının incelenmesi amacıyla yapılmıştır. Araştırmanın örneklerini oluşturan 210 çocuğun %82.86’sı boy uzunluğu, %78.10’u vücut ağırlığı yönünden standartlara göre normal sınırlardadır. Çocukların %65.71’ine doğumdan hemen sonra anne sütü verildiği, %20.00’sinin 6 aydan önce anne sütünden kesildiği, %19.52’sinin ise 12 aydan uzun süre emzirildiği bulunmuştur. Altı aydan önce memeden kesmenin başlıca nedeni “çocuğun memeyi almaması”, 12 aydan uzun emzirmenin başlıca nedeni ise “çocuğun memeyi bırakmaması”dır. İlk aylardan itibaren anne sütü yanında ek besinlere başlandığı ve ilk altı ayda en çok yoğurt, meyve suyu, bisküvi, inek sütü, tarhana çorbası, muhallebi ve sebze çorbası verildiği bulunmuştur. 

This study was conducted in Kıbrıs and Bayındır villages of Mamak area of Ankara to investigate taking breast milk and beginning supplementary foods of children, aged 0-36 months. A total of 210 children were studied. Their length of 82.85% and weight of 78.10% were on the normal limit. It was determined that breast milk was given 65.71% of children immediately after birth, breast milk was weaned before 6 months in 20.00% children and 19.52% of the children were suckled longer that 12 months. “Child not accepting breast milk was given the main reason for weaning breast milk before 6 months and “child refusing to give up breast milk” was given the main reason for sucking the child longer than 12 months. It was determined that supplementary foods were begun to children with breast milk for the first months after the birth and yoghurt, fruit juice, biscuit, cow milk, tarhana soup, blanchmange and vegetable soups were given most frequently during the first 6 months
