Reyhan (Ocimum basilicum L.) uçucu yağının antienflamatuvar aktivitesinin araştırılması

Amaç: Bu çalışmada, reyhan (Ocimum basilicum L.) (OB) uçucu yağının sıçanlarda carrageenan’la oluşturulmuş sağ-arka pençe ödemi modelinde antienflamatuvar etkinliğinin araştırılması amaçlanmıştır. Yöntem: Serum fizyolojik kontrol, etil alkol kontrol, indometazin (3 mg/kg) referans grupları ile OB (0.025 mL/kg), OB (0.050 mL/kg) ve OB (0.100 mL/kg) grupları oluşturuldu. Sıçanların sağ arka-pençeleri pletismometre aracılığı ile ilaç uygulamasından önce ölçüldü. Ardından ilaç periton içi yolla verildi. Subplantar yolla lambda-carrageenan uygulandı ve bu uygulamadan üç saat sonra sağ-arka pençe hacmi tekrar ölçüldü. Her iki ölçüm arasındaki fark gruplar arasında istatistiksel olarak karşılaştırıldı. Bulgular: Çalışma sonunda indometazin’in % 95.70, OB (0.025 mL/kg)’nin % 38.38, OB (0.050 mL/kg)’nin % 58.25 ve OB (0.100 mL/kg)’nin % 57.70 oranında antienflamatuvar etkinlik gösterdiği saptandı. İstatistiksel olarak her üç doz OB’nin kontrol grubuna göre anlamlı seviyede antienflamatuvar etkinlik gösterdiği, bu etkinin indometazin’den daha zayıf olduğu tespit edildi. Sonuç: OB uçucu yağının indometazinden daha zayıf bir antienflamatuvar aktiviteye sahip olduğu kanaatine varıldı.

Investigation of anti-inflammatory activity of ocimum basilicum L. essential oil

Objective: Anti-inflammatory effect of Ocimum basilicum L. essential oil (OB) was studied with carregeenan-induced hind-paw edeme model in rats. Methods: The study involved 6 groups; Serum physiologic, ethyl alcohol, indomethacin (3 mg/kg), OB (0.025 mL/kg), OB (0.050 mL/kg) and OB (0.100 mL/kg). After measuring the volumes of right hind-paws of rats using a plethysmometer, drugs were injected intraperitoneally and lambda-carrageenan were injected subcutaneously into the plantar region. Three hours after the injections the volume measurements of the right hind-paws were repeated and the difference between the volumes were compared. Results: It was found that indomethacin reduced the inflammation by 95.70 %, 0.025 mL/kg OB by 38.38 %, 0.025 mL/kg OB by 58. 25 % and 0.100 mL/kg OB by 57.70 %. Three doses of the OB exctract used showed statistically significant anti-inflammatory effect compared to the control groups. The anti-inflammatory effect of three doses of OB was weaker than the effect of indomethacin. Conclusion: OB essential oil was shown to have an anti-inflammatory effect.
