The use of precedence relations for assembly sequence planning

This paper investigates precedence relations that can be used for the purpose of assembly sequence planning. These precedence relations can be obtained by either assembly states or properties between connected parts. In the context of the paper, it is also examined how the approach can be applied to a case study which is a mechanical system consisting of four parts. A directed graph is used for the representation of all assembly sequences of this mechanical system. Then, the feasible assembly sequences are determined by the application of precedence relations. The research conducted has shown that it is possible to obtain assembly sequence plans of mechanical systems easily and quickly by the use of precedence relations.
