(Gazi Med J 2011; 22: 94-6)

Anesthetic management in a patient with thoracic aortic aneurysm undergoing noncardiac surgery

Aneurysm and dissection are the principal thoracic aortic diseases. Currently, it is stated that the prevalence and incidence of thoracic aortic disease is increasing and is higher than previously reported in the literature. Thoracic aortic aneurysms are usually asymptomatic. They are not easily detectable until an acute and often catastrophic complication occurs. Patients with thoracic aortic aneurysm may have to undergo a noncardiac surgical operation and aneurysm may be diagnosed during preoperative evaluation, as happened in our patient. Here we aimed to report our anesthetic management in a patient with ascending aortic aneurysm undergoing noncardiac surgery. (Gazi Med J 2011; 22: 94-6)
