The Opening of Fatih Fevzipaşa Street and Its Place in the Urban Development of Istanbul

İstanbul is a city dating from the Neolithic Era and has been shaped by the influenceof different cultures, religions and administrators from its foundation. The historic mainarteries of Istanbul that reached today, were constructed during the region of the ByzantineEmperor Constantinus I. One of these arteries is Fevzipaşa Street which is connectedto the residential area of the Mese facing the Golden Horn. Fatih Fevzipaşa Street is oneof the first streets of Istanbul in the republication period which is located on northwestMese / Fatih – Edirnekapı axis of Divanyolu in the historical process. The street was enlargedduring the Menderes’ constructional practices and has taken its place in the city asone of the major arteries.
