Hydrogenation of carbon monoxide over perovskite catalysts (YBa2Cu307-x)
Perovskite oxide structured YBa_2Cu_3O_{7-x} (YBCO) has been first prepared by the method of carbonate precipitation in the basic medium and then YBCO modified with palladium, ruthenium and cobalt on the perovskite oxide over alumina. After these dopant metal being prepared with its desired. quantity with support, precursors were calcined and then reduced in the reduction media of 5% H2 in Ar. The catalysts prepared were charecterized by using Temperature-Prugrammed-Reduction (TPR) to observe the reducible metal oxides and also to measure total and metal surface area. The catalysts have been used in the pressure of 1 and 9 atmospheres for H2/CO ratios 1 and 4 at the temperatures of 400°C in a differential plug flow reactor for the hydrogenation of carbon monoxide to give hydrocarbons. Methane is the main product studied over these catalysts and variation of pressure and hydrogen concentration cause very little change in product selectivity. The activity range due to carbon monoxide consumption has been found as Ru+Per.> Co+Per.> Pd+Per.> Per. respectively.
