A Dynamic Analysis on the Validity of the Phillips Curve for Turkey
The connection between inflation and unemployment is one of the most discussedissues of macroeconomy. This study investigates the Phillips curve, whichexpresses the trade-off between inflation and unemployment, using Bound testapproach, ARDL method and Kalman Filter for the period between 1996 and2016 for Turkish economy. In the empirical analysis, co-integration relationshipbetween inflation and unemployment has been determined by Bound test. ARDLmodel results suggest that unemployment rate is statistically significant and negativelyaffects inflation rate in the long run. Although the short-run coefficientobtained from ARDL model is not statistically significant, the trade-off has beenstated between inflation and unemployment in the long run. Kalman Filter modelis employed in order to analyze dynamic relationship between inflation andunemployment. The results show that the effect of unemployment on inflationhas significantly increased after the implementation of inflation targeting regimein 2002.
