The effects of crises on macroeconomic variables in Turkey: VAR analysis

An economic crisis that takes place in one country spreads in the short time to others parallel with development in information and communication technologies and economic integrations in the world. After 1980 has been a period of opening up and economic liberalization process for Turkey's economy. But in the same period, Turkey had to face with many economic crises that either arose from domestic dynamics or started in other countries but affected Turkey as well. In this study, effects of economic crises, Turkey's economy on the main macroeconomic variables, were analyzed by Granger causality test and VAR method by using the monthly data for period of 1988-2011. As a result of the analysis it has been seen that a shock which happens to one of the variables has influenced the others to a large scale and the effects lasted two years on average.
