Gabriel Marcel'de İnsan, Bilim, Teknik ve Anlam İlişkisi Üzerine

On the Relationship Between Human, Science, Technology and Meaning in the Philosophy of Gabriel Marcel

In this essay, the criticism of science and technology of Gabriel Marcel was investigated. To Marcel, in the modern world, where the priority of technology and the desire of possession is almost absolute, human is gradually losing value and respect, and such kind of a loss is a "loss of ontological meaning". Marcel claimed that the modern man has the power of changing world in parallel with changing science and technology, but despite this power and even by this power he gets lost in the universe. Then, there exists a world in which man gains meaning only by means of his body and in such a world, his "ontological meaning" is lost. Man's perception of technology, which is the cause of his self-alienation, has driven him into isolation, hopelessness and uneasiness. In such a world, which Marcel called "broken world", love, hope, confidence and peace lose some of their meanings day to day. All those losses basically stem from man's desire to possess. In this essay, the process of the annihilation of the experiences of man in the person and the "ontological meaning loss" of the man of age were questioned with reference to the basic concepts of Marcelian philosophy, and Marcel's solutions for that case were discussed.
