Bu çalışmada Walter Benjamin’in estetik ve politikaya dair düşünceleri The Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction metni üzerinden, ilk etapta Benjamin’in genel kavram dizgesi; ikincil olarak felsefe tarihindeki bağlamları üzerinden derin-leştirilecektir. Estetik ve politika arasındaki ilişki 20.yy’da, özellikle Frankfurt Okulu olmak üzere, felsefe çalışmaları içerisinde merkezi bir rol oynamıştır. Benjamin’in söz konusu metninin bu çalışmalar içerisindeki ayırt edici yeri ise fotoğraf ve sinema-nın kitleleri olumlu veya olumsuz anlamda politizasyonuna olanak sağlayan aygıtlar olarak temellerinin irdelemesine dayanır. Bu sebeple öncelikle genel olarak aesthesis olarak estetiğin dönüşümünü ele alacak daha sonra estetiğin nasıl olup da politizas-yona olanak sağladığını inceleyeceğiz.

In this work, Walter Benjamin’s thoughts on aesthetics and politics will be ex-plored using his work The Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction – firstly via Benjamin’s conceptual system, secondly through its contextualisation the history of philosophy. Relations between aesthetics and politics have played a central role in philosophical studies in 20th century, especially in Frankfurt School. The exceptional position of Benjamin’s text in these studies derives from his examination of founda-tions allowing the politicisation as well as analysis of the sense of aesthetics in 20th century via studies of photography and cinema as tools able to politicise masses in positive or negative way. Therefore, first of all we will approach the transformation of aesthetics into aesthesis and then the way in which aesthetics allow for politicisation.
