ÖZETObstruktif uyku apne sendromu (OUAS) horlama, tekrarlayan apne, hipopne ve uykunun bölünmesine yol açan "arousal"larla karekterize bir sendromdur. Bu rahatsızlık kardiyovasküler ve psikolojik problemlere neden olabilir. Yaşam kalitesinin ve iş performansının düşmesine neden olur. OUAS ilerleyici bir rahatsızlıktır ve zamanla daha da kötüleşebilir. OUAS ın gelişmesinde obezite maksillofasiyal anomaliler, yaş ve erkek cinsiyet risk faktörüdür. OUAS teşhisinde uyku laboratuarında alınan polisomnografi altın standartlara sahiptir. Tedavi ile sadece belirtiler düzelmez aynı zamanda hastanın mortalité riskide azalır. Tedavisinde en etkili yöntem sürekli pozitif hava basıncı uygulamasıdır. Ancak birçok hasta bunu tolere edemeyebilir. Oral apareyler üst solunum yolu boyutlarını artırarak kollapsı azaltırlar. Oral aparey tedavisi diğer tedavilere göre basit ve etkili tedavi yöntemidir. Anahtar Kelimeler: Obstruktif uyku apnesi, horlama, polisomnografi, oral apareyABSTRACTObstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) is a disorder characterized by excessive snoring and periodic breathing with repetitive apneas, hypopnoeas and arousals leading to interrupted sleep. This disorder migth cause cardiovascular and emotional problems. It is associated with a poor quality of life and impaired work performance. OSAS is progressive disorder that may worsen by time. The risk factors of the development of OSAS arc obesity, maxillofacial abnormalities, age and masculine sex. Polysomnography in a sleep laboratory is the gold standard for confirming the diagnosis of obstructive sleep apnea. Treatment not only removes the symptoms but also decreases the risk of mortality. There are several treatment options. Continuous positive airway pressure offers the most effective treatment of OSA, but frequently encountered with patients intolarance. Oral appliances used for the treatment of OSA reduce the collaps by increasing the dimension of the upper airway. Oral appliances are simple and effective alternative to the other treatmens.Key Words: Obstructive sleep apnea, snore, polysomnography, oral appliance
