Amaç: Oral sağlık ile ilgili çalışmalar genel olarak erişkin popülasyonuna odaklanmış olup, çocukların oral sağlığı ile ilgili epidemiyolojik verilerde eksiklik söz konusudur. Bu çalışmanın amacı ülkemizde çocuklarda görülen oral lezyonların sıklığı ve dağılımını değerlendirmektir.Gereç ve Yöntem: Bu kesitsel incelemede İstanbul Üniversitesi Diş Hekimliği Fakültesi Ağız, Diş Çene Cerrahisi Anabilim Dalı kliniklerinde muayene olmak için başvuran gönüllü 1041 çocuk yer almıştır. Yapılan muayenelerde 302 dan fazla tipte toplam 277 oral lezyon tespit edilmiştir.Bulgular: Fissürlü dil (%3.4) en sık görülen lezyon olup bunu travmatik lezyonlar (%3.2) ve yanak ısırma (%2.5) takip etmiştir. Sonuç: Çalışmamız bu yaş grubunda ülkemizde yapılmış olan ilk çalışma olma özelliğindedir. Kesinlikle bu alanda yüksek kalitede epidemiyolojik çalışmalara ihtiyaç vardır ve umudumuz ileri epidemiyolojik çalışmalar için bu çalışmanın bir temel oluşturması yönündedir

THE PREVALENCE OF ORAL MUCOSAL LESIONS IN CHILDREN: A SINGLE CENTER STUDY

Purpose: Studies regarding oral health are mainlyconducted on adult population and there is a lack ofepidemiologic data on the oral health of children. Thepurpose of this study was to evaluate the prevalenceand distribution of oral lesions in Turkish children.Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional surveywas carried out on total of 1041 Turkish childrenattended by the outpatient Oral Medicine andSurgery Department of İstanbul University.Results: Examinations were performed and 277 ofwhom had a total of more than 30 different type oflesions detected. The fissured tongue (3.4%) wasthe most frequent lesion, followed by traumaticlesions (3.2%) and the cheek biting (2.5%).Conclusion: This is the first study in Turkey onoral lesions in this age group. We hope that ourstudy will be a baseline data for future studiesand for sure there is a need for more goodqualityepidemiological studies in this area.
