Talon Cusp: A Report of Four Cases

Talon cusp is a developmental dental anomalythat can be seen both in primary and permanentdentition. This is usually reported to be seen in theanterior region of both maxilla and mandible. ATalon cusp is a cingulum-like structure that growson the cement-enamel junction and hyperactivity ofthe enamel organ during morphodifferentiationhas been attributed to its formation. It is generallycomposed of enamel, dentin and sometimes different amounts of pulp. It may occurs unilaterally orbilaterally and most commonly seen on the maxillary lateral incisors followed by central incisors,premolars, canines and molars. Also some authorsreported cases of Talon cusps in the mandible,though, these cases are rare. The etiology of thesecases is unknown and the incidence is between0.04-10 %. In these case reports, clinical and radiographic characteristics of this developmentalanomaly and treatment choices are presentedwhich is caused clinical problems like occlusalinterference, tooth displacement, caries and tongueirritation
