SAMSUN MÜBADİL TOPLUMLARINDA OYUN GELENEĞİ

DANCE TRADITION IN SAMSUN EXCHANGE COMMUNITIES

This paper, contains limited information on the dance culture of two exchangecommunities who came from Kavala and Thessaloniki in Greece and placed aroundthe city of Samsun in Turkey by the Treaty of Lausanne in 1923. The most distinctiveproperty that differentiates the dances of the exchangees from Hacı Ismail andAlaçam districts connected to Canik town from other local dances is the traditionalhora and karşılama type exchangee dances performed in weddings inaccompaniment of the davul and zurna. When we consider Samsun exchangeedance performances from a formal point of view, a slow sequence towards fastdances in terms of tempo (rhythm and speed in the structure of the figure) is seen.At the same time, an increase in the tempo according to the dancers’ and musicians’communication is seen in a dance. The traditional dance culture, which has beenkept alive by Samsun exchange societies, has contributed to the further enrichmentof local cultural treasure by adding diversity to the region's traditional dance culture.
