Effect of Methyl Parathion on the Rat Small Intestine Tissue and Protective Role of Vitamın C and E

Methyl parathion, an organophosphorous insecticide, is widely used in agricultural control and causes poisoning. In the present study, methyl parathion (0.28 mg/kg day), vitamin C (200mg/kg day)+vitamin E(200 mg/kg day), vitamin C (200mg/kg day)+vitamin E (200 mg/kg day)+methyl parathion (0.28 mg/kg day) were given to male rats through gavage. Histopathological changes were investigated using light microscope 4 and 7 weeks after administration. After 4 and 7 weeks of methyl parathion exposure, dilatation was observed in intestinal villi. Addition to this, infiltration in some area was observed 7 weeks after. After 4 and 7 weeks of vitamins C+vitamin E+methyl parathion exposure, degenerative changes were detected in the intestinal villi. As a result, lower doses of methyl parathion caused histopathological changes in the rat small intestine. It’s determined that vi-tamin C and vitamin E haven’t prevented the pathological changes caused by methyl parathion in small intestine.
