İsmet Özel ilk edebi faaliyetlerine 1963 yılında başlamıştır. İkinci Yeni atmosferinde yetişmiştir. İkinci Yeni’nin getirdiği açılımlardan yararlanmamakla beraber bağımsız bir şair kimliği oluşturabilmiştir. İsmet Özel şiirsel ahenge ve şiirde müziğe önem veren bir şairdir. Orta uzunluktaki şiirlerinde İsmet Özel’in dili son derece rahattır. Zengin görsel çağrışımlar içerir ve coşkun bir lirizm, okuru hemen şiire bağlar. Özel, kendi kuşağı içerisinde şiirin sorunları üzerine en çok düşünen ve yazan şairlerden biri görünümündedir. O yalnızca kendi şiir yazma deneyiminden edindiklerini paylaşmaz; aynı zamanda, iyi bir şiir okuyucusu olabilmek için yol gösterecek tarzda şiir okuyucusuna yardımcı olacak hususları da tartışır. “Mazot” şiiri Özel’in İslami bir kanaate geçiş döneminin şiiridir. O bu şiiriyle insan, varlık, yokluk konularını sorgulamıştır. “Mazot” şiiri bir yönüyle İsmet Özel’in şiirlerinin bir prototipi sayılabilir. İsmet Özel started his first literary activities in 1963. Growed in the Second New atmosphere. Although not benefiting from the opening of the Second New he has created an independent poet identity. İsmet Özel is a poet who attaches importance to music in poetry and poetic harmony. In his poems of medium length, İsmet Özel’s language is extremely comfortable. It contains rich visual connotations and an enthusiastic lyricism connects the reader with poetry. Özel, is one of the poets who writes about the problems of poetry in his generation. He does not merely share what he has gained from his own poetry writing experience; at the same time, to be a good reader of poetry in a way to be able to guide poetry readers will discuss issues to help. The poem of “Mazot” is the poem of the transition period of Özel to an Islamic conviction. He has questioned the subjects of humanity, existence and absence with this poem. The poem of “Mazot” can be accepted as a prototype of Ismet Ozel's poems. That is one reason why this poem was chosen as an example in the article.
