An evaluation of marigold concentrate (MC) and paprika oleoresin (PO) on egg yolk pigmentation and egg production
AB evaluation of marigold concentrate (ME) and paprika oleoresii»(PO) on egg yolk pignrartatioi» and egg produetim. Experiments were: conducted to evaluate the relative egg: yolk pigmenting properties of two commercially available products, a marigold concentrate (MC) ami a paprika oleoresin (PO). A total of 108 xanmophyll depleted hens were divided into 12 dietary treatments rangingfrom 0 to 36 mg total xanthophyll/kgfeed from theMC or from PO or from botlt the MC and PO products fed in combination. The resulting egg. yolks were analyzed fer color using the methods of the A.O.A.C. (P-carotene equivalents), Roche color fen, and Hunter reflectance colorimetry. Results of the yolk- color analysis indicated that tbePO, when used in combination with-theMC, could increase Hunter L, a, p-carotene equivalents and visual response in greater proportion than corresponding increases in the MC alone. MG raised Hunter b value more than PO did (PO.ttI). There were no significant differences among the groups for egg. production (number,%) and: feed, conversion values (P> 0.01). There were significant difference among the groups: for egg. production: (g/days) eggweight, feedconsumptionaadlive weight (P
