“EDEBİYAT KURAMI”NIN TEZİ NEDİR? Öz Teryy Eagleton’ın 1983 yılında ilk baskısını yaptığı “Edebiyat Kuramı” kitabı, okumayanlar için görünüşte edebiyatı bir bilim olarak ele alıp kuramsal yansımalarının teorik temellerinin atıldığı bir kitapmış gibi görünür. Ancak bu kitap, sadece edebiyatın kuramlarından bahsetmez. Bu durum, yazarın da kendi ifadesiyle kitabının çok okunmasının ve akademi ötesi bir okur kitlesini kendine çekebilmesinin nedenlerinden biridir. Teori temelli didaktikliğinden ziyade edebiyatın “edebi”liğini değil de insan bilimleri menşeli bir yaklaşım olduğunu ele alan bu kitap, edebiyatın ne olduğunu sorgulayarak edebiyat kuramının tanımına ulaşılabileceğini söyler. Böylece edebiyat kuramının elitist zümrenin hegemonyasından kurtularak edebiyatın, “öteki” olarak görülen gruplarca da şekillendirildiğini ispat eder. Bu şekillendiriliş yadırganmamalıdır. Çünkü 20. yüzyıl, toplumların hem sosyolojik hem de ideolojik şekilde dönüşüm ve değişimlerin yaşandığı bir zaman dilimidir. Bu makale;  Terry Eagleton’ın eleştirel bir gözle edebiyat kuramları hakkında neyi nasıl söylediğini gözler önüne sermeyi amaçlamaktadır. Anahtar Kelimeler: Edebiyat, kuram, toplum ve tarih. WHAT IS THE THESIS OF “THEORY OF LITERATURE” Abstract The book "Theory of Literature" by Teryy Eagleton, which was first published in 1983, seems to be a book, in which the theoretical bases of its theoretical reflections are laid by regarding literature as science, for those who have not read apparently. However, this book does not only talk about the theories of literature. This is one of the reasons, by the author’s own expression, why his book has been read too much and attracted a mass of readers beyond academia. Rather than theory-based didacticity, this book deals with the fact that literature is not a "literary", but an approach based on human sciences, and tells that the definition of literature theory can be reached by questioning what literature is. In this way, the theory of literature is liberated from the hegemony of the elitist coterie and proves that literature is also shaped by groups seen as "the other". This shaping should not be found odd because 20th century is a time period when both sociological and ideological transformations and changes are experienced by societies. This article aims to point out what and how Terry Eagleton has told about literary theories by a critical eye. Key Words: Literature, theory, society and history
