'BEN'= FARKINDALIK

İçebakış yöntemi, öznelliğin özünün -yani 'ben'in- farkındalıkla özdeş olduğu gerçeğini açığa çıkarır. Bu 'ben', bireyin değişik fiziksel özellikleri ile bireyin 'kendi'sini teşkil eden zihinsel içerikten ayırt edilmelidir. Çoğu bilinç tartışması 'ben' ile 'kendi'yi birbirine karıştırır. Aslında tecrübemiz -zihin ve beden dualizmi değil de, 'ben' tecrübemizle gözlemlenen 'ben' duygumuz arasındaki dualizm anlamında- esas itibarıyla dualistiktir. Farkındalık ile 'ben' özdeşliği; farkındalığı 'ben' olma tecrübemizle bildiğimiz ve böylece de sonsuz gözlemci teselsülü problemini çözdüğümüz anlamına gelmektedir. Bunun sonucu olarak da, farkındalık ontolojimiz ne olursa olsun, 'ben' için de aynı olmalıdır.
