Delusional parasitosis: Report of 2 cases
Delusional parasitosis also known as psychogenic parasitosis is a rare chronic psychiatric disordercharacterized with delusion of parasitic infection without any medical evidence. Etiology isunknown but it is suggested that decrease in striatal dopamine transporter function may plays rolein etiology. Our cases were 39 years old father and 12 years old boy presented with complaints ofcommon pruritus and circulating of parasites on their skin. Diagnosis was delusional parasitosis.Any other diseases and parasites were not detected by physical examination and laboratoryinvestigations. Although it is a psychiatric disorder it is important because patients usually visitdermatologist for the situation. We report these cases to emphasize the importance of thatdelusional parasitosis may presents in many patients of same family and these cases should beconsulted to psychiatry clinics.
